Hey! Its time for yet another story for the Swipe File! The story that I'm currently writing is called Oathrune, in this book, the main character Swift, is given a second chance at life when he's saved from the streets by the Prince. However, after years of growing up together, Swift is framed for killing the King and the Queen. Hunted by the Prince, enemies hidden behind friendly faces, Swift has to uncover the motives of those who framed him, while avoiding the misguided wrath of the Prince. Hope you enjoy this one, its in the writing process now!

Swipe File 10

"To come back to the question, the wise man, self-sufficient as he is, still desires to have a friend if only for the purpose of practicing friendship and ensuring that those talents are not idle. Not, as Epicurus put it in the same letter, 'for the purpose of having someone to come and sit beside his bed when he is ill or come to his rescue when he is hard up or thrown into chains', but so that on the contrary he may have someone by whose sickbed he himself may sit or whom he may himself release when that person is held prisoner by hostile hands. Anyone thinking of his own interests and seeking out friendship with this in view is making a great mistake. Things will end up as they began; he has secured a friend who is going to come to his aid if captivity threatens: at the first clank of a chain that friend will disappear. These are what are commonly called fair-weather friendships. A person adopted as a friend for the sake of his usefulness will be cultivated only for so ...

It could be an experience, a person, a book—anything that has had an impact on your life.2.  2. Don't just recount—reflect!  Anyone can write about how they won the big game or the summer they spent in Rome. When recalling these events, you need to give more than the play-by-play or itinerary. Describe what you learned from the experience and how it changed you. 3. Being funny is tough. A student who can make an admissions officer laugh never gets lost in the shuffle. But beware. What you think is funny and what an adult working in a college thinks is funny are probably different. We caution against one-liners, limericks and anything off–color. 4. Mario (9)

*Plays Mario Theme Song on the Piano * What if you could play video games all day? Man wouldn't that be great! In an old story that I am trying to find, someone Wakes up in their favorite video game while they are sleeping in the real world. The parents are freaking out and don't know what to do. When you are busy doing stuff, and your parents ask you to do something; What is the response that they receive from you?  The main Character decides that he isn't going to stop playing the game. Things start turning dark and his parents are trying to help but he thinks that he can do it on his own. How many times do your parent try to help you without you seeing it?
Hey! This is my latest Swipe File post, I'm just summarizing my short story for the week, titled 'Hunted'. It starts with the Main Character giving a quick intro to his situation, he's facing off against the demon who's been hunting him. They clash again and again, finally, the Main character, beaten, bruised and battered, cuts off the demons hand. This causes it to roar in pain. The roar, louder than the previous ones, shakes the snow loose. The Main character is lost in an Avalanche of snow, thus ending the story. I put a lot more detail into the actual writing of the story, so I hope everyone likes it!

Swipe File pt. 8

One of the easiest things in life to swipe from is the people around you. My younger brother asks me to paint his nails a different color every week but he is the star of his baseball team and plays video games every spare moment he has. My friend is obsessed with cars. He draws them, paints them, spends hours working on his own car. One night after we finished eating at a restaurant, he left to get his car while the rest of us paid, a minute later he dashed back in looking like he saw an angel but in reality it was only a Toyota supra. The elderly lady who lives two houses down, never fails to open the door every Monday and Wednesday saying, “Come in, come in dear,” somehow knowing it is me despite being legally blind. My mom once told my sister and I that girls use to brush their hair 100 times before they went to sleep to make it shiny. My sister tried one night, but fell asleep on the 62nd stroke. These characteristics of people may seem random and unimportant b...

Hey, It's me, posting another swipe, this time I'm stealing a plan from Sanderson again, (he must be a great author or something XD). Anyway, I'm swiping his idea of the multiverse, I've been thinking about a way to incorporate all my characters into one story and I think I may have figured out how. Multiverse possibility Characters to choose from: Jase storyline, Rowan storyline, Cae, or Cae’s kid, (Oathrune story character) Altima storyline (Lianna) and more. Story: by defeating the evils on their worlds, they have inadvertently restored the Dark God of All Evil to life, now faced with an evil greater than any they have seen before, they must gather the other heroes and walk amongst the stars.
Ok, so the latest thing I’m gonna swipe is actually from the Flash and Steelheart (Brandon Sanderson). The following story incorporates Flash’s speed, and Steelhearts utopian era of ‘there are no heroes among supers’ Lianna, a superhuman with the power of speed, is part of a large community of supers known as Altima’s, nearly all of the Altima believe they are superior to Humans and essentially take over the world. Lianna feels deep regret for not standing up for the Humans, now Humanity is enslaved to the Altima society, with virtually no free will. Working for Van, an Altima with the power over fire, Lianna is sent to America, the last free place for humans, her mission is to kill and occupy a landing zone for the rest of the Altima’s assault. Upon her arrival, she is captured, when she wakes up in a cell, she discovers several other Altima watching her, these Altima have taken a new name, Omegon, their goal is to protect and save as many humans as they can. Unsure of whether s...
Swipe File #5 One Big Mess... Developing a Research Question Developing a Research Thesis Thesis Characteristics Finding Sources Evaluating Sources Taking Notes Working with Quotations Writing Summaries & Paraphrases Building the Essay Draft Documenting Sources Documentation Formats Revising and Proofreading the Draft This is useful to me because in  Socratic we are writing a research paper. And I always have trouble finding the layout for me that works. So with these steps it should help me quite a bit.
Swipe File #7 Quotations  must be identical to the original, using a narrow segment of the source. They must match the source document word for word and must be attributed to the original author. Paraphrasing  involves putting a passage from source material into your own words. A paraphrase must also be attributed to the original source. Paraphrased material is usually shorter than the original passage, taking a somewhat broader segment of the source and condensing it slightly. Summarizing  involves putting the main idea(s) into your own words, including only the main point(s). Once again, it is necessary to attribute summarized ideas to the original source. Summaries are significantly shorter than the original and take a broad overview of the source material.
Swipe File #6 I am currently reading the Life of Pi, and in his chapters that recount his experiences on the boat, he explains that he has been a vegetarian all his life.  It was pointed out by some of my peers, as well as by myself as I read it more and more, that Pi considered all life as sacred, and he hated his first kill of a fish for food.  Two points come out with those parts of the story that I wish to express in some of my stories. (1) - All life is precious, and that should be the basis or commonality of any standard of morality. (2) - One can become desensitized to the wrongness or goodness or excellence or atrocity of something if it is exposed to them too much.

Swipe File pt. 7

In senior socratic we are reading Life of Pi. The author's (Yann Martel) writing is so beautiful and his use of metaphors and similes really brings more vibrancy to the book. "A strip of hide came off the Zebra's belly like gift-wrap paper comes off of a gift." (pg. 125) "She looked like a refrigerator on crooked wheels." (pg. 127) "Memory is an ocean and he bobs on the surface." (pg. 42) "...I was a fish god." (pg. 196) "I felt I was beating a rainbow to death."( pg. 185) "The sea is a city." (pg. 175) Metaphors and similes are very key in stories. Even by comparing a monkey to something as random as a fridge, adds so much imagery.

I don't know if this will make sense to anyone but ahhh, here it is. Art is really important to me. We paint scenes with our words. Sometimes I wonder if instead of a painter, the artist was a writer. What would Vincent van Gogh write about the Starry Night? Would the mysteries of the looming trees and the swirling skies be revealed? In art, we are left wondering what the artist was feeling while painting or what is the meaning behind the picture. In writing we want to people to see the scene in their mind and understand the feeling/meaning in the words.

"And that wasn't the end of it. There are always those who take it upon themselves to defend God, as if Ultimate Reality, as if the sustaining frame of existence, were something weak and helpless. These people walk by a widow deformed by leprosy begging for a few paise, walk by children dressed in rags living in the street, and they think, "Business as usual." But if they perceive a slight against God, it is a different story. Their faces go red, their chests heave mightily, they sputter angry words. the degree of their indignation is astonishing. Their resolve is frightening. These people fail to realize that it is on the inside that God must be defended, not on the outside. They should direct their anger at themselves. For evil in the open is but evil from within that has been let out. The main battlefield for good is not the open ground of the public arena but the small clearing of each heart. The Life of Pi, Yann Martel. 71

Plot Line (6)

Realizing that i need slight (billions of hours) of revisions. I decided to start with the first parts plot structure and i thought i might try the seven point plot Structure.  Start: Meet Helias who has a vision of his parents. Learn about his job and the situation with the kingdoms. Plot turn 1: King sets out bounty on the dark dragon, Helias find out the dark dragon is inside him Pinch 1: Helias runs away from the king. Middle: Helias starts to remember that he was a great warrior and he starts training Pinch 2: Helias goes to the castle of the king and demands an audiance. Plot turn 2:  King removes the bounty on Helias and charges him with murder End: Helias is put into prison to await trial. Tell meh wt to do guys? :D
Hey! I'm posting another file today in advance, hope you enjoy it! Tonwin was plagued by Grothgars spirit, continually battling for control of his mind and body. Unable to trust his own mind, Tonwin left, leaving no trace or clue as to where he went. 80 years passed from the time of his disappearance. Machines were becoming more prominent, being used for good instead of evil. Magic is used less and less, becoming uncommon in all but the Elves. Peace reigns over all until the dead begin to stir. Climbing from their graves they begin attacking the innocent. Tales of the undead attacks reach the Ordith, but fall on ignorant and slothful ears. The Immortals themselves are not concerned until news reaches them that an Immortal has been slain ,  something once thought impossible. Terrified, the Immortals begin to panic, sending panic throughout the rest of the land. (If the super ancient, immortal people are scared, then it’s a pretty safe bet to freak out). Hey its me again, posting my new Swipe file on my long story, this is the most recent chapter in my blog. This post is a continuation of Tonwin's life previous to this he had been captured by the enemy after breaking his peoples oath to stay out of society's problems. Due to this, he helped save the Ordith and retake the Great Oak. After Tonwin was freed he told them what he’d learned while among the Nonling’s. The Nonling leader had planned to imbue his machines with the magical power he’d collected from the Great Oak. Enabling them to be active permanently, and negating any magic used on them. Tonwin and his allies struggled to re-enter the Nonlings base of operations. Tonwin was shocked when he discoverd the Nonling leader injured and dying. When he was questioned his only answer was “He is free he is free he is free” Confused Tonwin finally saw the massive mechanical beast begin to rise. Having converted the Nonlings base into a mechanial monster, Grothgar had needed th...

Trevor Brown March/2/17 Mrs. Frampton 4th period Swipe File #5 http://www.copyblogger.com/brilliant-writing-tips/ When you experience a situation, you pick up more than just its sights. By describing sounds, scents, tastes and sensations, you’ll immerse readers in your story’s world. The following scene from Saladin Ahmed’s “Hooves and the Hovel of Abdel Jameela” does a wonderful job of pulling the reader into the story by using senses other than sight. Her voice is more beautiful than any woman’s. And there is the powerful smell of jasmine and clove. A nightingale sings perfumed words at me while my mind’s eye burns with horrors that would make the Almighty turn away. I really want to work on my writing styles and incorporate new styles into my writing. I've found that I tend to write the same style over and over again.

Creation Myth

Aight so with my story there is a creation myth, send me feedback right down below but preferabbly on my blog. Thanks for the support -Dunemask In the beginning there was only chaos. The spider’s love flowed through all that was, and is. He was the master of time and space. His love was for a bird, so majestic and beautiful among all that existed. He offered his heart to her, and gave her all that she wanted. The bird was also greatly in love with the spider, but she slowly had her attention drawn toward the Dragons, TItans and Giants. The three sects of power in all that is were constantly at war with one another, and there was never any peace. The great bird wished only for tranquility and joy, and could not put her love for anything else. She asked the spider for all of his power, and being in love with her; he agreed and brought forth enormous amounts of energy unto her. No one should have this much power, this much will of anything. She used the power that she had been given to ...
Hey its me again! Here's the latest Swipe I've collected from my 6.5-7 page story. I didn't even know I'd swiped this until I typed up the section with it. Today the story I’ve swiped is actually from the Book of Mormon, with the evil dudes who were King Noah’s advisors, I gave it a twist and added the concept into the War of the Races book, a continuation of the 6.5 page long story I wrote in 10th grade that was generational, like Terry Brooks (I mentioned him before). The lieutenants of Grothgars army incite hatred and war among the races, leaving it up to an Elvish Scout, Elwin, to reunite the races and stop the lieutenants before a darker evil surfaces.

Benjamin Hailstone - Swipe File #4 This video discusses the meaning and significance of trials in our life.  It is the story of a young girl who is suffering from a rare and difficult medical condition, but has found ways to lift and bless others lives, and be active, involved, and loving even in her difficulties.  It also includes some words from a religious leader named Robert D. Hales about some of reasons we have trials, as well as some of the comping mechanisms that we can use to help us through the trials in life that we don't deserve.  This has significance for me, because someone I love is going through a really hard trial that she doesn't deserve.  I had an "awareness of excellence" when I watched this video, and it helped me to feel better about the challenges that people face in life.  I think I want to use some of the principles outlined in this video in a hero story that I'm working on.
Benjamin Hailstone - Swipe File #3 "Behind every great man is a woman rolling her eyes." Jim Carrey A  favorite audio book by a popular religious youth speaker named John Bytheway (yes, Bytheway) comes to mind.  The book is about some of his trials and triumphs through high school, and he tries to use his experiences and some of his moral and religious ideas to motivate readers through high school.  The title,  You're Gonna Make It , expresses the theme of teaching and motivating the reader about what they must do to have a successful social and spiritual experience trough high school.  In that book, he talks a lot about how - as a young middle school-er and a freshman - he really appreciated those who shared simple greetings, like a smile, or a wave, or a simple "Hi!"  As he went on to become a senior, he resolved to always greet and show affability to those around him, because he wanted to return the favor he needed very much in his e...

Ok, I want to preface this by saying, this is not my best work, I do not like writing ghost stories, but here is my best shot at it. :) Ghost story- John and his friends are on a group trip to the family cabin, where they plan to hang out for the weekend. Having been apart for so long, they are eager to hear what the others have been up to. When they arrive at the cabin, everything seems pretty normal. They laugh, play games, reminisce, and enjoy each other’s company. When night falls though, things go very very wrong. The cabins lights go out, and James, the superstitious friend, immediately begins to panic. He runs from the cabin, gets in his car and drives away, screaming. The others are confused, until they hear a screech and a loud crash and some screams. Worried, they drive out after James, they find his car, wrapped around the tree. Freaking out, they try to return to the cabin, only, the car is gone, no tracks, no sounds, no lights. John, the one who’s always prepared, ha...

Suddenly his legs gave way and he dropped down on his knees. The blood from his new wound was now dripping out. There was not enough time to do anything but the mission. He had never wanted this, he had only ever wanted happiness. But he couldn’t find it where he looked. At last he had resulted to this, letting other choose for him what he was meant to do, what he should be doing with his life. He didn’t believe in such a thing at first. Yet he took the easy way out, and he didn’t look back at all the things he had. Now the last mission remained, and then he could be happy. He pulled out the knife and started to crawl up the stairs. The screams that he had so long ignored were now starting to bother him again. He couldn’t live like this anymore if he wanted to be anything else. Then he heard the crying, the wailing...

(sorry, its won't be my best work) Peace on this New Earth was not to last however, Grothgar, one of the more prominent Darklings that rose up from the Dividing, wanted chaos to reign again, gathering an army of followers he rose up and conquered everything in the surrounding area. He cut communications between the races, he encountered little resistance. Finally, word of his actions reached the Elves, concerned with his rapid conquest, they gathered the remaining races into an army to oppose him. It wasn’t easy, and some exchanges were made in order to buy their help. Together the first Allied Army marched to the Allias Ravine (as it was later known) they’d been informed that Grothgar intended to march his forces through and surprise them. Story Scripting

Scripting a story helps the teller to become conscious of physical movements. In class on Wednesday, February 15 or Dylan's birthday, you will present this short story telling. Consider your characters: how do they walk, carry themselves, where is their body center? Where will you pause for dramatic effect? Put in the story script where you will actually pause. Physical location. How will it change; when will you move to the front of the class, or where will you move directly to influence the audience? Create a sensorium: a place where your listeners experience the five senses of sound, taste, sight, sound, touch. Consider the storytelling backbones of inciting incident, rising action, telling action, climax, denoument, conclusion.
Hi this is my latest post about my actual portfolio of my stuff. The following story is the background story to explain how the world became filled with magic, and magical beasts. In the year 2982, a massive crack nearly broke the earth in half, running thousand several miles wide and a few hundred miles deep, the crack shorted out all electrical systems, millions of people died in the earthquakes and chaos that followed. During the aftershocks of the crack, the continents were broken apart, and crashed together, terraforming the planet. This event was later known as the Dividing, though what followed after was even worse. Dark creatures thought to be myth and legend surged from the crevice in the planet, thousands more were slaughtered, from the population of nearly 10 billion, only a few hundred thousand remained. Humanity was sent back to the bronze age, losing most of their technology in the process. For the next 2000 years, humanity struggled back into existence. However, when...

Everybody knows of those keep calm and carry on, swim on talk on, jabber on, teach on, game on, boss on, learn on, and clean on signs? They get quite annoying after a while to see every time you walk up to a door.  Ex: You walk up the concrete stairs and step by step you feel the anticipation. You try to gaze away, avoid any means of contact with this horrid creature. You reach the door, (so far so good) you walk lift your hand for a knock and nobody answers. You ring the doorbell, and all the while you feel it's presence. It just stands there, and though it's an inanimate object; You feel as though it is gazing into your soul, trying to get your attention at any cost. You frantically ring the doorbell hoping that someone will answer you in your time of need. You know that it's very rude to look inside of the window and that someone on the other side of the street is watching your every move. The realization that no other option presents itself. You finally fall to you...

My Swipe File - February, 9, 2017 In honor of Valentine's Day, I thought I'd share in my swipe file some of my favorite love songs.  I've actually found the first two just recently, and I've been listening to them a lot over the past few weeks.  They are such a perfect replication of how I feel about my secret crush.  The songs practically say exactly how I feel.  The ideas expressed in these songs are something I would like to incorporate into a hero story, because I have noticed that almost all hero stories have a love story as well.  I love the idea of a secret love that the hero cannot let anyone - especially the love him/herself - know about.
My Swipe File - January 27, 2017 "With great power comes great responsibility" - Uncle Ben, The Amazing Spider-Man.   I really want to do a hero story that centers around this idea.  If one is ina position to do something to make the world a better place, they are obligated to do so.  If one has ability to do good or to do evil, they are responsible for whatever choice they make. "You've gotta let go of that stuff from the past, 'cause it just doesn't matter.  The only thing that matters is what you choose to be now." - Po, Kung Fu Panda 2.   In my hero story, I also want to incorporate the fact that we can't change what challenges or hardships we've endured in the past.  We can't go back and erase mistakes or misfortunes or wrongs.  But we can choose to overcome and learn from our past mistakes and hardships.  We have power over our future, and we can shape our own destiny "The world doesn't stink . . ."  -  Mark, Highw...
